Charlton residents who are registered Democrats can be elected to the Charlton Democratic Town Committee by getting on the Presidential Democratic Primary Ballot as described here: How to Run for Town Committee If there are open seats on the voting committee between elections, you must attend at least 2 DTC meetings and request membership. The DTC will vote to decide whether to appoint you.
If you are a left leaning Unenrolled Charlton voter, you can opt to register as a Democrat or request non-voting membership as an Associate.
Members are expected to attend monthly meetings, except July and December, either in person or via Google Meet.
The Charlton DTC participates in various events and expects members to volunteer when they can, whether it is greeting voters at the polls, canvassing for candidates, Get-Out-The-Vote Post Card campaigns, manning a booth, attending a standout, gathering petition signatures , phonebanking or any activity you feel comfortable assisting with that advances democratic ideals.
We also encourage all Democrats to run in local elections or get your feet wet in town government by joining a municipal committee. Municipal committees have something for everyone depending upon your interests. These committees range from the weighty (Finance Committee) to the fun-loving (Old Home Day Committee) and everything in between. You can find several of the committees listed in the application Talent Bank Form but there are always many more. Some are on-going such as the Earth Day Committee and others are formed then dissolved once the work is complete, such as the Fire Substation, Community/Senior Center, Government Study, Master Strategic Plan and Housing Production Plan. Watch the Select Board Highlights for the creation of new committees or openings for appointments on those already established.
