You must be a registered voter of Charlton to vote in Charlton municipal elections and at town meetings. Since Charlton is in Massachusetts this will allow you to vote in Massachusetts State and Federal elections as well. If you move out of town you must re-register.

Once registered you can vote:
at Heritage School, 34 Oxford Road - the town polling location on election day
at Charlton Town Hall, 37 Main Street during the early voting period
by Mail-In Voting if you have applied for and received a Vote By Mail ballot
ALL MAIL IN BALLOTS CAN BE MAILED, HAND DELIVERED TO TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE OR DROPPED IN THE TOWN HALL SECURE DROP BOX LOCATED ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE BUILDING NEAR ACCESSIBLE PARKING. (see Pickup Note below)
Massachusetts accepts mail-in ballots received up to 3 days after election day that are postmarked by election day. So if you have waited until the last minute, your best bet is to drop off your ballot in the Drop Box on the Charlton Town Hall. (see Rule below)
Drop Box Pickup
Although the Charlton Town Hall is closed on Fridays, the Town Clerk picks up any ballots in the drop box on Friday, the day before a Saturday election, again before voting begins on Saturday and at various times throughout election day with one final pickup at the 8 pm poll closing. Of course, similarly multiple pickups occur for a Tuesday election as well.
New 2026 Postmark Rule
In fact, there is nothing changing with regard to postmarks. Because of the focus on mail-in ballots and voter suppression hinging on the postmark, the postal service decided they needed to clarify postmarks and how/when they are applied. And to notify people that if you want to be sure your mail (ballot or otherwise) is dated when the post office takes possession of the piece, that you should bring it in and ask for a postmark. And better yet, request certified mail to get a receipt with the date as proof.
"As stated in the Proposed Rule, nothing in DMM Section 608.11 effectuates any changes in how, or the extent to which, the Postal Service applies postmarks to mailpieces. However, the postmark was not previously defined in any current Postal Service regulations, and the Postal Service considered it appropriate to reflect these existing practices in the DMM to ensure that customers have a clear understanding of the postmark and what it means.
